Our History
The seed for the Gagliano Associates was planted in August 1986. Jennie’s dad, Lou Gagliano, had just completed 31 years as a Design and Manufacturing Engineer with IBM and was given the opportunity for early retirement.
After retiring from IBM, Lou and his wife Martha decided that they needed to find something to do in order to supplement Lou’s pension and keep themselves busy. A tax business seemed to be the perfect solution because it was seasonal work, enjoyable, and added the income they needed. Martha was brilliant with numbers and a quick thinker, while Lou knew computers and was very sociable. So, they took a course in doing tax preparation. Martha excelled at it! While taxes did not come as easy for Lou, he had many other qualities that would help them run the business.
In 1987, the business started out very small with mostly friends as clients, but it soon expanded through referrals. Martha completed all the taxes and Lou fulfilled the role of Office Manager. This system worked well for a very long time. As the business continued to grow over many years, Lou and Martha felt that they needed additional help to continue to run the growing business and eventually turn it over as they looked toward retirement. Luckily, their daughter Jennie and son-in-law Jan were interested in a new business opportunity. They both took a formal training program and excelled at the material. Jan and Jennie soon became integral members of Gagliano Associates.
After only one year of working together, it was clear that Jan and Jennie would be the perfect fit to take over and purchase the business. They started a slow transition process and, over many years, Jan and Jennie gradually took on more responsibility and clients until Lou and Martha could officially retire.
Lou and Martha have been enjoying retirement life! However, they still love supporting Jan and Jennie during the busy Tax Season by helping run errands and doing grocery shopping for them.
